A Time of Mourning
These past two weeks have been tough, from the passing on of the founder of modern Singapore LKY to my friend Jeremy in my previous church cg. The fragility of life and the purpose by which one lives his or her life became more stark than ever.
The tremendous outpouring of grief over LKY's death had gripped the entire nation. For a nation that prides itself on its pragmatism and efficiency, spending over 8 hours to queue up where you can only pay respect from a nation since there was vigil guard over the coffin of LKY defies common logic. Then again, LKY was not a common man, his remarkable life stories pieced together by different sources, from the man on the street to official sources to his own family members, I come to respect this man even more.
-----------------------
The death of Jeremy was a shock to all who knew him, one that had so much zest for life itself, his fun-loving antics and dedication as a friend..he was so gregarious and sporting and came as a Star War character for my wedding) From the numerous messages on facebook, friends who had written down their own tributes for him, it was tough emotionally. I recalled going to his dad's wake just a few years ago as I was reflecting on the times I had with him..
One can take comfort that he is now more alive than ever, in a much better place with our loving Lord Jesus for all eternity. Pray that his sister and mum will be strengthened and comforted during this period of anguish.
1 Cor 15: 54-58
So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
